Living Shorelines: Restoration for natural coastal protection

The hands-on workshop will take place over three days:

• From Tuesday, August 26 to Thursday, August 28, 2025, to develop a new Living Shorelines project at the Notre Centre de Grande-Digue,
• Located at 468 Route 530, Grande-Digue, NB E4R 5K3.

Helping Nature Heal uses natural materials, advanced scientific principles, and ecosystem restoration techniques to re-establish vegetation and help stabilize shorelines.

The objective of the workshop is to learn about the Living Shorelines approach while implementing a coastal restoration project at Notre-Centre de Grande-Digue. A team from Helping Nature Heal will guide participants through the installation of natural shoreline erosion control measures appropriate to the site.

The ShoreUp workshop will be held over three days to cover distinct elements of a Living Shorelines project:

• Tuesday August 26 – 1:30pm to 4pm: site preparation and gathering of materials;
• Wednesday August 27 – 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm Pizza lunch will be served: installing nature-based infrastructure and adding plants.
• Thursday August 28 – 9am to noon: implementation of the monitoring program.

Participation is free. You are welcome to participate on the date and time that suits you most. Please register at : New Brunswick Environmental Network site

Please bring:

• a water bottle – there will be a water station and snacks on site
• appropriate clothing and a change of clothes, in preparation for the weather and outdoor work.

• Tuesday August 26 – 1:30pm to 4pm – Prepare and Assess
  • Assess the site and gather more materials if needed, start work along side Helping Nature Heal crew
  • Participation: help prep materials onsite; gather materials offsite if required
• Wednesday August 27 – 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm – ShoreUp Community Day A pizza lunch will be served
  • Install wattle fence, veggie groin; add plants along the shoreline
  • Participation: learning by doing with guidance from Helping Nature Heal crew – Field guides
